Paul Newman: A Life ReviewI received this book as a gift, after wanting to read about Paul Newman for a long time. I greatly admire Paul Newman, not only for his acting, but for the humanitarian work he does through Newman's products. However, this book is just plain awful. I've read many movie star biographies (and autobiographies), and this is the worst, by far. The author is clearly biased against Joanne Woodward, and makes catty remarks about her throughout the entire book. He doesn't state his sources, and it seems like most of the quoted statements are negative (for Paul AND Joanne). I have a feeling that the author is one that simply cranks out star biographies for the buck, writing with a preconceived notion of his subject, not taking the time or effort to really investigate. It's also very badly written. This book is garbage and I can't even bring myself to finish it. Time to find another biography of Newman to read - hopefully there is a better one out there!Paul Newman: A Life OverviewA racy leading man, a devoted husband and father, an American icon. Any of these would describe Hollywood legend Paul Newman. Almost everyone the world over knows the public story of America's heartthrob, but few know what really went on beyond the silver screen-until now. Quirk's book chronicles how Newman, armed with his astonishing good looks and what his acting teacher called "magnetic presence," rushed into acting and marriage to get away from his father's disapproving eye. As Quirk deftly unveils, however, Newman was unprepared to settle down, and the vows of marriage only served to ward off rumors of his suspected homosexuality. Quirk details Newman's rocky marriage, the joyful birth of his first child, and his first acting breaks on Broadway where he met his second wife, Joanne Woodward.

Paul Newman, The Man Behind the Baby Blues: His Secret Life Exposed ReviewI didn't realize this book was written by Darwin Porter when I ordered it. As Wikipedia says, Porter is known for writing celebrity biographis with outrageous allegations and no proof or evidence, all conveniently published after they die. I have a feeling the only thing true about Paul Newman in this book is the spelling of his name. It reads like Porter just sits down and types whatever he imagines.Paul Newman, The Man Behind the Baby Blues: His Secret Life Exposed Overview
This is a pioneering and posthumous biography of a charismatic icon of Tinseltown whose rule over the hearts of American moviegoers lasted for more than half a century. It's loaded with never-before-published revelations that look behind the innocent-looking baby blues that enthralled the movie-going public. He became one of the most potent, desirable, and ambiguous sex symbols in America, a former sailor from Shaker Heights, Ohio, who parlayed his ambisexual charm and extraordinary good looks into one of the most successful careers in Hollywood. It's all here, as recorded by celebrity chronicler Darwin Porter--the dirt and the glory, the bad and the beautiful, the giddy highs and the agonizing lows of a great American star. This title won an honorable mention for biography from the NEW ENGLAND BOOK FESTIVAL in 2010
